Divinity: Original Sin

Although many of the successors to classic Infinity Engine games emerged as new IPs, Original Sin was birthed from the long-running Divinity series which has fluctuated in genre. Original Sin apes the feel of those Baldur’s Gate by featuring a party of characters with their own backstories and motivations but innovates by allowing meaningful roleplaying within cooperative play between the two main protagonists. These elements are competently done, but the real star of the show is a stunning turn-based combat system that treats every encounter as a unique puzzle box that can be solved in any number of thrilling ways.
