Final Fantasy IX

After the release of the cyberpunk and futuristic worlds of Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII in the late ‘90s, the original creator of the series, Hironobu Sakaguchi, aimed to develop an installment that brought Final Fantasy back to its roots. Sakaguchi’s “reflection” of prior games, Final Fantasy IX, has become his (and many fans’) favorite title within the series. Final Fantasy IX returns to a medieval fantasy setting and props up a simple, yet not uninvolved, story. This manageable plot lays down a foundation for richly developed characters with compelling and emotional themes of mortality, identity, and love.
