Like all entries in the “Sega Ages” series of ports, Fantasy Zone is a festival of Sega love. It’s a boppy little number, an arcade port that plays like the classic Defender given a cartoon landscape and lollipop colors. But, it’s hard to put down. Clearing a level by flying back and forth over the looping landscape and checking targets off the minimap is good and the bosses are difficult and stunning. Mostly it’s the Sega Ages polish that makes it such a pleasure to play, with the borders full of gorgeous high res art and info selling the experience.
