Fire Emblem Fates: Revelations represents a third story path in which the player is afforded the opportunity to unite the two warring factions introduced in Birthright and Conquest and vanquish an even greater evil lurking beneath the surface. It’s also basically fanfiction in video game form. Fates suffers from inconsistent writing overall, but Revelation is really where it dials it up to 11. Although the sheer scale of the crossover is intrinsically pleasing and the gameplay is as solid as ever, the writing, characterization, and general plot framework are all seriously lacking. It inevitably feels like 40+ hours of redundancy.
