After Radiant Dawn, Fire Emblem heads back to handheld with Shadow Dragon. A remake of the first game, Shadow Dragon is, unfortunately, a weak game that didn’t garner much attention. While the original game needed a remake and Shadow Dragon is the best way to play it, overall it’s a bland title. Gaiden chapters being locked behind character death is very backwards, and the clashing graphical styles did the game no favors. It makes sense why the remake of the third title wasn’t localized, as Shadow Dragon failed to impress in the West, despite having relatively sound gameplay elements.
